King & Shaxson’s service makes it much easier to look after ethically minded clients. We conduct research into funds on a stock-by-stock basis. We also manage individual equities and bonds and therefore have both the experience and knowledge in a specialist area. We use the services of an ethical researcher to ensure the ethical integrity of our investments. We monitor our model portfolios on a daily basis – being focussed on this one specialist area we can give it the attention that it needs. We also use a broad range of asset classes enabling us to run portfolios across the risk spectrum.

PERSONAL DISCRETIONARY SERVICE

Our values based questionnaire determines how the client wishes for their core ethics and principles to be reflected within their portfolio, taking into consideration financial and non-financial concerns.

ABOUT US

King & Shaxson Ethical Investing is a division of King & Shaxson which is part of the Phillip Group, a global company that employs over 3,000 people worldwide. The company dates back to 1866, with clients including well-known building societies and local authorities.

Today King & Shaxson has evolved into a specialist investment firm focused on securities dealing, asset management, and treasury consultancy.

The ethical team is personally committed to ethical investment. Strictly an investment management business, we do not advise clients and therefore conduct the majority of our business through independent financial advisers.

Do you have clients interested in ethical investing?

Ethical investing. It’s what we do. And have done since 2002. OUR RANGE OF INVESTMENT SOLUTIONS

DISCRETIONARY SERVICE

Our Personal Discretionary Service is a highly personal investment management service that not only takes the effort and worry out of investing, but is also tailored to suit the client’s individual needs.

This service allows the client to set their own ethical and financial criteria via our values based investment questionnaire; clients concerns are then reflected in a personally designed portfolio.

All of our personal discretionary portfolios are actively managed and monitored on a daily basis to ensure that risks are controlled in accordance with the outlined risk tolerance. Portfolios can encompass a wide range of investments, from direct equities to bonds and fixed interest securities.

Our personal discretionary portfolios are developed based upon sound financial research, drawing on in-house expertise and accompanied by external third party research.

DIRECT EQUITY PORTFOLIOS

Our four direct equity model portfolios are designed to meet the majority of the financial and ethical needs. The investment objectives of each portfolio provide a range of four risk approaches; from those that require a high level of capital protection to those where a high level of risk is acceptable.

The four approaches are defined as Light Green, Mid Green, Dark Green and Cautious Green. These definitions do not characterise the level of environmental exposure but rather the intensity of ethical values within each portfolio. Each portfolio aims to be as ‘ethical’ as possible within the defined investment constraints. Our direct equity model portfolios avoid significant involvement in armaments, alcohol, human rights abuse, tobacco, intensive farming and poor environmental management. The portfolios seek to invest in thematic investments that finance positive solutions for social and environmental entities.

PLATFORM MODELS

Our five ethical model portfolios were launched in 2010 following requests from financial advisers who were looking for a solution that could be accessed via wraps and platforms.

In response to adviser demand we have developed five ethical model portfolios to cater for a range of risk and income requirements. These model portfolios are available on the following platforms: Novia, Nucleus, Transact, Aviva, Standard Life, Ascentric and Praemium.

The King & Shaxson ethical model portfolios available on platforms are designed to meet the majority of ethical investor’s concerns. However, as the portfolios include a number of collective funds and also aim to spread the risk of investing in a tightly defined area, unfortunately there are significant ethical compromises. That being said, each portfolio is as ethical as possible within the investment constraints of each portfolio and platform.
